Verizon customers can keep their phone calls on the air, but not their texts
New York — Verizon is expanding the range of its phone and tablet subscriptions for residential users.
The carrier on Tuesday announced a new program that lets customers keep their calls and text messages on the network and access them on their laptops, desktops, and tablets.
Verizos new program lets users keep their phones on the line for home, office, and entertainment use, but it does not require customers to have a plan.
Users can access the service while connected to a wired connection, but the carrier also said they must be on the same network as the phone.
In order to sign up, customers must complete an activation process and have a Verizon Wireless Home phone account, which is currently tied to their home phone number.
To get started, consumers will have to sign in to their Verizon Wireless account on a desktop or laptop.
From there, they will be able to tap on a home or office phone number and choose to access their Verizon Home phone service.
At this point, the service is only available to residential customers, but Verizon has plans to expand to all types of devices.
“Today’s announcement demonstrates the great strides we’re making toward expanding the services that are best for customers, while making sure we’re delivering the best service to our customers across our network,” said Mark Reitzes senior vice president, network and customer service, in a statement.
“This is a significant step forward in our plan to deliver high-quality broadband and mobile internet services for our customers in all regions, across all devices, and to make sure everyone is connected to the best network possible.”
Verizon said it is also working to expand the number of customers who can keep on top of their bills.
The carrier said that customers can still access their bill information by visiting their Verizon.com account, but they can only view their current and past bills.
The company also said that if customers need to get a new phone or tablet, they can still pay for the service.
They can still buy the new phone at the store, and they can pick up a new device in the mail, or use a credit card to pay for a device.
Verizon also said it will continue to offer its standard unlimited smartphone plan for new and existing customers.
The company said that all customers will still have access to the same unlimited plans available on Verizon’s own website and that the company’s existing unlimited plan will continue as well.
For those who want to buy a new smartphone, the carrier said it offered a $30 discount on its $60 monthly plan, which includes a two-year service agreement and up to two years of unlimited calling and texting.
