The average cost of a hospital stay in Maryland is $1,717 per day, according to the latest data from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The average hospital stay is $2,099 in Washington County, Md. and $3,089 in Prince George’s County, according the data.

In Baltimore County, where the state capital is located, the average hospital bed count is 7,741, and the average bed count in all counties is about 9,900, according data from Maryland State Department of Health.

Maryland hospitals are among the top 10 in the nation in spending on medical care, according a report from the National Association of Health Plans.

The state spent $7,828 per capita on medical costs in 2016, according an analysis by The Washington Post.

The top 10 states in spending per capita include Florida ($10,564), North Carolina ($8,723), Georgia ($8.924), Virginia ($7,907), Ohio ($7.922) and Illinois ($7.,634).

Maryland’s per capita spending on hospitalization for inpatient stays is $8,636, according The Washington Times.

The number of beds per capita in Maryland has been falling since the 1980s.
