New residential window cleaner: How it works, costs and impacts
The idea of a householder washing windows may seem like an innocuous and ordinary thing.
But it’s not.
The new and often-unrecognised process of removing windows is becoming more commonplace as homeowners use the tools of the trade.
As they are replaced, the windows become more vulnerable to water damage and, as the water flows into the walls, the paint starts to dry.
The window cleaner’s job is to wash and repaint the windows with the freshest, most expensive paints.
“We’re not washing the windows for a profit.
It’s just cleaning,” says John Gossett, a commercial and industrial window cleaner.”
The window cleaners will put a lot of paint on the windows.
If you’re going to use paint, it’s best to go with something that has a high gloss.”
A window cleaner is on a mission to save lives, and help save money.
Gossett is one of many window cleaners who say the use of a commercial window cleaner has changed the way many homeowners think about windows and how they’re maintained.
“I think people are starting to see windows in a more holistic way,” he says.
“They’re now more aware of the role of the windows in the home.”
The process involves using a vacuum cleaner to vacuum the window frames and remove any unwanted paint that may be in the walls.
The vacuum cleaner also removes the paint, removing the paint from the window frame and allowing the window to be painted again.
But when it comes to cleaning windows, it can be more difficult to get the paint out of the walls and out of your home.
Gould says people who want to paint windows need to do it in a controlled environment with a vacuum.
“You can’t just go out and spray the whole house,” he explains.
“That’s not the way it works in Australia.”
So what is a window cleaner to do?
John Gossett says he wants to do a job that will save lives and save money by improving the quality of your house’s windows.
“A lot of times you see homeowners painting their house, they’re not really thinking about the environmental aspects,” he said.
“What they’re painting is the windows.”
He says the window cleaner should not be a chore.
“When I first started I’d go down to the garage and I’d paint the windows,” he laughs.
“Then I’d get out and get some paint and spray them.
Now, I think I paint the whole kitchen, and that’s my job.”
The window cleaning process is also a lot more economical than painting the walls or windows.
In fact, many commercial window cleaners cost about $100 a week, but some have a much lower cost per square metre of paint.
John Gottets advice to other homeowners:”You don’t have to do this, but if you’re like me and you’re on the fence, think about it.”
Gossetts’ commercial window cleaning business, Gossets Window Cleaners, has been around for about 15 years and has a team of about 30 people.
“This is what it takes to be able to provide quality service to people,” he explained.
“So if you don’t need it, don’t get it.”
